Truck drivers are more often than not, on the road 24/7, leaving them little time to clean their truck and especially their truck’s floor mat. If you’re one of these truck drivers, you may be looking for ways to keep your floor mat cleaner without having to give up your job and your income because of it. To help keep your floor mat clean, we have compiled this list of 7 ways that should do the trick. As always, feel free to leave any comments or questions about any of these methods in the comments section below!
Wipe Your Floor Mat With a Damp Cloth
When you first get home, it’s a good idea to wipe your floor mat with a damp cloth, both as a first step in cleaning and as an opportunity to spot any obvious stains. If you see something amiss on your mat, give it some time before deciding if you need additional cleanings.
Start From Inside Out
To avoid bringing outside dirt and debris into your home, make sure you shake off your shoes when you come inside. Once a week, use a vacuum attachment or broom/dustpan combo to clean out any collected mud or sand that has gotten past your shoe collection.
Remove Extra Dirt on the Edge
You can easily clean all around your car mats by using a bucket, warm water and soap. Prepare a cup of soapy water and dip a sponge into it. Squeeze out excess water, dip it in warm soapy water and then rub it on floor mat edges to get rid of any dust or dirt. Once you have cleaned up edges, use a dry cloth or towel to wipe them off.
Get Rid of Smelly Mats by Putting Them in Direct Sunlight
Sunlight is a great disinfectant. Simply put your mats in direct sunlight to freshen them up, and they’ll be nice and fresh when you return from your long weekend on a tropical island. If you can’t take time off, consider parking your car outside in direct sunlight for at least 20 minutes every day.
If it is too Old, Buy a New One
The frequency of your floor mat cleaning will depend on how much traffic you get at your business. If you are located in a high-traffic area, such as a shopping mall or airport terminal, it’s wise to clean your floor mat more often than an establishment that has very little foot traffic. If your business is in one of these high-traffic areas, you may need to buy new floor mats annually—so be sure you can afford it before purchasing.
Use Vinegar and Water Mixture
In a spray bottle, mix one part vinegar and four parts water. Spray onto your mats on a regular basis, especially after heavy traffic and when you know it’s going to rain. Let sit for five minutes before wiping down with a damp cloth or sponge. It may smell strong at first, but it will air out quickly.
Soak Your Mat in Hot Soapy Water
The best way to clean your mat is by soaking it in hot soapy water. Most mats have a removable top and bottom, meaning you can take them apart, place them in a large basin, and fill with hot water and dish soap. This will loosen dirt and grime and help you scrub off whatever is stuck onto your mat. Leave them submerged for at least an hour before drying thoroughly with a towel. Not only will they be clean, but they’ll also dry more quickly as well!
