Human beings have a deep-rooted fascination for flying. Regardless of whether you’re young or old, local or foreign, every person loves flying and aviation technologies like airplanes, helicopters, and now hot air balloons.
And why not? They give you breathtaking views of the world from above, and the experience is safe and fun for everyone. If you’re planning a trip to Dubai and want an unforgettable way to take in the sights, then hot air ballooning is absolutely for you.
Here, we bring you the ultimate guide to hot air balloons in Dubai, complete with tips and experiences from seasoned flyers.
Where can I fly?
As you can imagine, given the size of the United Arab Emirates, hot air ballooning in Dubai is a bit more limited than somewhere like Spain, where flights are common. Here, only two locations offer flights:
The Desert near Al Manhal
A visit to the desert is a complete must-do when you’re in Dubai, and as such, there are several companies that offer morning desert bus/Jeep tours that include lunch. Among the many options, Al Manhal is the most recommended as it’s the closest desert location to Dubai and is very beautiful.
The location where the companies set up is about 2.5 kilometers from the road, so the view is truly desert. Also, don’t worry about traffic, as the location is away from all roads. However, it’s recommended that you get there at sunrise (around 5 or 6 am) to ensure that you get the best view.
Al Ain Desert Park
This location is a bit further away from Dubai (about two and a half hours), but it’s still within the borders of the United Arab Emirates. The park is a protected area, and as such, you’ll get to see different structures built by past travelers, including tent camps and restaurants.
The park isn’t as sandy as the desert near Al Manhal, and you’ll notice that the land is a bit dry and green. Nevertheless, you’ll get to see the amazing sand dunes and the beautiful Abu Dhabi.
When should I fly?
As with any activity in Dubai, hot air ballooning isn’t an activity you can do every day. Not to mention that the early hours of the morning don’t favor very warm days. That being said, the best time to fly is either right before sunrise or just after sunset.

How much does it cost?
The price varies depending on the company you choose, but it’s safe to say that a flight with Hema Travels, one of the leading companies in Dubai, is about 225 USD per person. This package includes a 45-minute flight plus morning tea and snacks.

What should I wear?
Don’t worry too much about what to wear, but keep in mind that you’ll be in the desert so very warm clothes. That being said, don’t wear any pants that can catch the wind and fly away! Jeans are a bit too heavy, so go for track pants or shorts if you’re feeling brave.
Who can go?
Anyone can go! Although it’s a bit scary to think about getting into a big balloon, the pilots are very professional and make the experience as safe as possible for all passengers, including children. Just don’t bring any bottles of water with you because they won’t be allowed on the flight.

What to expect?
You’ll get to enjoy the view of the sunrise above the beautiful Dubai skyline. If you’re lucky, you’ll also see some sunsets in the desert, and you’ll have time to shoot some pictures. Keep in mind that the ride is a bit bumpy because of the sand, but that just adds to the adventure.
After landing, you’ll get to enjoy some refreshments, which is a nice treat after an exciting adventure.
Experience of a lifetime!
Flying a hot air balloon is an extraordinary experience and one of the best ways to appreciate the beautiful city of Dubai and its surroundings. If you’re lucky, you might even see wild camels in the desert! If you can afford it, I highly recommend it as a gift to yourself or for a special occasion like a wedding or anniversary. You won’t regret it!
