    Healthy eyes are important for clear vision. Some foods and nutrients play important roles in improving eye health. Vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, and omega-3 fatty acids are some of the key nutrients that protect the eyes from age-related eye damage and reduce the risk of serious eye diseases.

    A healthy diet prevents or slows the progression of cataracts.

    Foods for healthy eyes

    Fish: Fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 protects the eyes from macular degeneration and dry eye syndrome. Fish intestines and body tissues contain oil. Tuna, salmon, trout, and sardines are examples of seafood that contain high levels of omega-3.

    Dark Leafy Greens: Dark leafy greens are high in vitamin A and vitamin E. They have powerful antioxidants like carotenoids, lutein, and zeaxanthin, which may help prevent age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. Leafy green vegetables that are good for eye health include kale, spinach, and kale.

    Broccoli and Brussels Sprouts: Broccoli and Brussels sprouts contain vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E in high concentrations. All of these are antioxidants that protect the eye from free radicals that damage healthy eye tissue.

    Carrot: Carrot is good for improving eyesight. It has a high concentration of beta-carotene, which is transformed into vitamin A.

    Vitamin A is essential for good vision. Rhodopsin is activated by vitamin A. Rhodopsin aids in the absorption of light by the retina.

    Dairy products: Dairy products such as milk and yoghurt contain vitamin A and zinc. Vitamin A protects the cornea, while zinc aids in the transportation of vitamin A from the liver to the eyes. Zinc also helps with night vision.

    Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes contain large amounts of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is the precursor of vitamin A. Sweet potatoes also contain vitamin C and some vitamin E.

    Lean Meat and Poultry: Lean meat and poultry are high in zinc. Zinc is responsible for transporting vitamin A from the liver to the retina of the eye and also helps prevent age-related vision loss and macular degeneration.

    Pumpkin: Pumpkin contains high amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin, which reduce the possibility of serious eye diseases such as poor night vision and age-related macular degeneration.

    The gourd comes in two types – Summer squash with vitamin A and zinc and winter squash with vitamin A, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids.

    Eggs: Eggs are excellent for eye health. Egg yolks contain vitamin A (which protects the cornea), lutein, zeaxanthin (which increases visual acuity), and zinc (good for the retina). The yellow-orange part of the egg protects the retina from damage.

    Almonds: Almonds contain vitamin E, which is good for eye health. Vitamin E protects the eye from an unstable molecule (called a free radical) that targets healthy tissue in the eye. Almonds are also helpful in slowing the progression of age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.

    Nuts and Legumes: Nuts and legumes are high in vitamin E and are also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which help protect the eye from age-related damage. Some nuts and legumes that are good for the eyes are walnuts, peanuts, and lentils.

    Seeds: Like nuts, legumes, and fish, seeds contain large amounts of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamin E also helps prevent cataracts, according to a large study.

    Some seeds rich in omega-3 fatty acids are sunflower seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, and hemp seeds.

    Citrus: Citrus fruits contain vitamin C and vitamin E in large amounts. Vitamin C is the key to healthy eyes. Vitamin C and Vitamin E are powerful antioxidants that protect the eyes from eye diseases. Some examples of citrus fruits include Oranges, Grapes, and Lemon.

    Raw Red Pepper: Raw red pepper is good for the blood vessels in the eyes. It’s a good source of vitamin C. It may reduce the chances of acquiring cataracts. Several vegetables and fruits, including cauliflower, strawberries, and papayas, contain uncooked red pepper.
